SINCE 1711: The wine cellar Ribas is a reference in Mallorca as to wine making, than with more than three centuries of history it is the oldest winery of the island. Situated in one of the manor houses from XVIIIth century in Consell, it has been preserved intact until today, maintaining the historic cellars barrels and production premises.
The philosophy of the family in the winemaking strives for excellence in quality through wines which are elegant, personal and with strong terroir. The winery always works with a high percentage of mallorcan varieties Mantonegro and Prensal, as they are part of the family legacy. Ribas Wineries are also responsible for recovering other grape varieties indigenous to the island, as Gargollassa, that were practically disappeared and that supplement the above mentioned.
The more than 40 hectares of own vineyards are harvested by hand and worked on by the owners. The winery also counts with the oldest plantation and the greatest diversity of varieties native on the island. Ribas is a pioneer in Mallorca in the selection of grapes in the vineyard and in the selection of every grape in cellar, ensuring that way the highest quality in all its wines.
These aspects make up some of the pillars of the philosophy of the family, which is based on absolute respect for the land, history and heritage, as well as high quality through control of the old vines themselves, an essential aspect by producing more complex wines such as “Ribas de Cabrera” or “Sió”, named after the family´s grandmother.
