You can find the Palacio de Almudaina right beside the Cathedral La Seu and above the gardens of S’Hort del Rei. The Arabs built Almuidana as a fort outside of the city walls, right beside the sea. In the 14th Century James II added to the fort the strength and comfort of the then, Court of Mallorca.
Of the 20,000m2 that are the Almudaina Royal Palace only a small part of it is accesible to the public as it is here that the Military Command of the Balearics is based.
The King Juan Carlos uses the palace as his official residence during his vacations each year in Mallorca. Prince Philip and Doña Letizia also had dinner with representatives of Balearic Culture on their official visit in May of 2005.
